I run a 6 hp kicker on my boat (just in case of an emergency) best case I never want to use it. The aluminum mounts on most motors are not very tough and will break if you subject them to constant bouncing. I actually took a motor toter, (about $25) and fastened the mounting bracket to the back end of the boat and then attached the motor toter to the kicker. I have it tied in with a rope and it is rock solid. I am not really using the tilt notches at all. If I would need to use it I simple would untie the rope and the motor totor would drop down.

I know they make something like this that has velcro straps and a bracket that can be removed from the boat easier but it is >$100 (not sure the name).

I have a single concole and also have my kicker mounted on the starboard side as we try to fish out of the port as much as we can. This keeps the back end open for the guy in the back to figure 8.

What I do works for me so that's what I do.
