I'm kind of in the same position as Haney and want to upgrade to an I pilot on my 17 foot tin bass boat. My 55 pound thrust has always been adequate and rarely run at more than 50%. So now the question should I stay 12 volt 55 pound I pilot with 2 batteries in parallel or go 24 volt 80 pound I pilot with 2 batteries in series. What are the pros and cons of each? What would give me the longest running time? My wiring is heavy enough for either.

The only reason I can think of to get the 12 volt is if the boat doesn't have room for two trolling batteries.
