Yes,that is what happened to me on Pipestone.Only the second time I ever hit something and this was a unmarked reef.The stainless skeg guard protected my partial skeg but put all the stress on the lower unit and actually seperated the lower unit housing.You won,t see me using one again. Lucky it was last day of the trip and we limped 20 miles back to landing and new lower unit was ordered. GL.
