Location: With my son on the water | I have a 2007 Lund Explore 1600. This boat has a rod locker on each side. I pulled the front deck and cut a hole in the front of my port side locker. I then installed a 4" PVC pipe in the front end that runs next to the live well in the middle. I can now put 3-4 9 foot rods in my port side rod locker.
On the Starboard side I cut a hole in the area that hold the shift lever/console, I then inserted a PVC pipe into the hole. I can't lock these up but it is a really nice place where I can storege 3 more rods up to 10'. (I copied this from the Lund 1825 Explorer)
In total I can store
4 - 9 footers
3- 10 footers
About 15-7 foot or less
all in a 16 foot boat........
I probably should/could do the same thing to the starboard rod locker as I did with the port but we manage the way we are.
I think you can do this with most boat like this (Crestliners or Alumacrafts).
I like the boat a lot (great size and affordable) but I wish it was glass. I am ready to buy a new rig (retirement present) and I don't want a BIG BIG boat but I am waiting for the manufactures to catch up with the rod storage which I am sure they will do. |
