If one of your batteries is bad it will drag the other one down with it. When I need to change mine if one is bad I change both so they are a mated pair. When buying new I'll look for a pair that were manufactured in the same month and year.

The old batteries being replaced get load tested and the bad one is kept on hand for the core replacement and the good one ends up being an extra auxiliary battery or goes in my brother's boat and he runs it till it croaks. With as many things as we have around this place (dairy farm) having a stockpile of old batteries for core exchanges is necessary.
