I like it on the Port side also because I do lots of night fishing and the green light from the front light lets me see my lure as it get close to the boat. If the motor was on the other side it somewhat shadow the light to the water. This "Starboard" green light comes in very handy for night fishing. Remember that your light must be taller than the trolling motor for all to see, its a law. In some cases you must buy a longer bow light after mounting a trolling motor.
