Location: Grand Rapids MN		They're not 24V batteries, just 12V in series which output 24V together. If you split the feed from a 12V charger to two 12V batteries it will be fine. Remember two 12V batteries in parallel will have a 12V output; you are doing the same thing in a sense with the charger, splitting the voltage in parallel circuits.
