Location: Green Bay, WI | No sweat. Jerry Newman saw this thread as well and told me yesterday that he believes the problem is indeed that your card is too large. He thought that it does need to be less than 2gb in size. So then the question is whether or not you can simply format the card to have one partition that is 2gb in size? I would try though.
So take a look at this video and try to format that card in FAT, and make a 2gb partition size. For now, just leave the rest of the card as free space just to see if the 5300's operating system will recognize that partition:

The other thing you could do first (before putting your data on the card) is to create TWO 2gb partitions on the card, just to see if the unit recognizes them. If not, then try the one partition. (EDIT) Then you wouldn't have to install your data on the card, only to lose it if you later tried to reformat the card again. But if that doesn't work, you have your answer--you need a smaller card.
In a perfect world, you could create eight 2gb logical partitions and the 5300 would recognize each as a different card. Then you would have "A", "B", ..."H"
partitions, and could store different data in each partition--and simply select the one you wanted depending upon where you were fishing, for instance. But I doubt that Lowrance's unit will allow that, so you may just need a smaller card.
Good luck!
