I missed something here...

I missed it was a 2 stroke.

If your motor is set up correctly, it should be idling at roughly 800 RPM's... Might be a struggle running it at 500 - 600, but it can be done... just make sure you open it up a bit and definitely run a synthetic oil like amsoil...cleaner burning which will help reduce plug fouling...
