Location: Green Bay, WI		I will be using an engine monitor system too though, I think. So I *think* this will indeed require the NMEA backbone, as most of these are NMEA 2000 compliant. I understand what you are saying though, about the Lowrance ethernet feature. Their stuff is amazing...
