I am looking to get my first gps/sonar unit and this one caught my eye. Mostly because it seems to have some great features for a good price. so my question is does anybody have experience with this unit? How did/didn't you like it? Thanks for your help!
Those units are a great value and can provide the added feature of down imaging. Down imaging is very useful if you are interested in supplementing your 2d image with crisp clear target separation. Instead of a blob of fish on 2d sonar you will be able to count how many are in the school. Instead of a clump near the bottom you will be able to see if this is a tree an see the branch's or weeds and count the stalks. Make sure you understand how down imaging works and see if it applies to your fishing technique.
Also understand NMEA2000 and its capabilities. Waypoints are transmitted upon entry from one unit to another. They are not shared per se. Lets say you have two units linked through NMEA2000 and one of them is off and you enter a bunch of waypoints on the one that is on. When you turn the second unit on it will not show these waypoints. You can transfer them by downloading them on a chip and then uploading them from the chip onto the second unit.
I think it would make a great unit. Once you learn down scan, you'll never be without it. Just don't compare it to a HDS unit. |
