I had a minnkota PD55 on my last 14'er. It was plenty of power. It would move me in strong currents and wind with no problem. If I can remember right, i could get 2.7 mph out of it. Like everyone else has said, there is no such thing as too much power. But do remember that once you get into 24v trolling motors, that's another 30-40 lbs in a second battery, and possibly battery storage problems. I had a 15 horse on mine so I wouldn't want to add anymore weight than necessary. If weight and space aren't an issue, go as big as you can afford.
