I've used the rams for years. Most guys have it right. They will slip trolling with any speed, and baits that have some drag. I boated about 1500 ski's on my rams. finally got tired of the slippage. BUT, what I did was drilled a hole through the aluminum post, and stuck a spring pin through the hole. This helped big time, and really helped the problem. If you were to ask guys like Doug Johnson, he loves his rams, and will tell you the slight give , helps when fish hit.

I never thought I was in jeopardy of losing a rod by the ram rod holders. Also, I had the rail mounts. I use both down east, and folbe now. I've had Folbes also wear after about 2 years. I also had down east fail on me, but I run rods down in the water2-4ft. Supposedly, folbe is working on a saltwater holder that hopefully will hold up to all our needs, but the price??? Is anybody's guess!
