Sponge,
I got a Tohatsu 9.9 which is the same as the Nissan which is the same as the Merc. I wouldn't have believed it until I pulled my cowling off and it fit right on to the Merc's. Then I started looking at the heads, oil filter, carb and so on. Everything was identicle.I guess they wanted folks to think they were buying American!

Compare prices with the Nissan at Cabelas online cat. They are the cheapest I have found. I got a Pitts. dealer to match their price. The 9.9, 15, and 18 are all the same motor and decals are dirt cheap. The difference between the 9.9 and the 18 is only like a couple hundred. The gas milage is unbelievable. They come with a 3 gal.tank and I can't empty it in a full day. My new boat has a 12 gallon tank so I will hardly ever have to fill it up.

The downside is they are very heavy compared to a 2 stroke, almost double the weight. The oil has to be changed periodically, but the filters can be found at any automotive store......................................RAZE
