Had a similar problem with a speedo except that it was some woody debris sucked in. I used an air compressor with a blower attachment (ie "blow gun" ), and used the regulator to bump the pressure down to about 20 PSI so as not to blow the line up. You may have a connection back by the motor that you can unhook without digging under the dash.

Obviously you need to be extremely careful at this point to make sure the impeller is pumping sufficient water and didn't get trashed by running sand through it.
