I have had my X-190 on St. Clair several times this season and it handles the water just fine. If any of you were out there for the opener, it was SUPER windy and rough out there...I spend 3 days out there in that and had a great time fishing...my guys even commented several times how suprised they were how the boat handled so well in the rough stuff. I personally wouldn't be timid about running that out there...as I will be in mine all fall with the big north winds. Plus, if the waves are bigger then 4.5 ft what boat are you gonna be able to stand on and cast? I've had this boat on Mille Lacs and St. Clair in both 4+ footers...it is a handles the waves just fine and you stay dry!
