imo you don't have to run a certain brand for your engine..ie you could run merc oil in your yamaha just fine brian...buy a good brand but you don't need the carton to say yamama...2 strokes are 2 strokes
i have run every brand oil in my yamaha sleds no issues...


2 stokes are 2 strokes but you cannot just use any 2 stroke oil in a 2 stroke DFI engine (like an Optimax) for instance. You want to ensure that the oil you run is specifically made for the engine you have. Make sure if you have an Optimax you run a DFI oil (like Amsoil HP injector).

I have a 2011 Merc Opti 225 ProXS and run the amoils HP injector for $29 a gal (or 4Litres) but the Merc Opti oil is about $60 a gal.
