For those of you that think there is a black line between the lakemaster and the navionics meaning one is way better you need to do more research. Neither one is "better", they are just more accurate on different lakes which is the reason I run one in one unit and one in the other. Also, there are thousands of lakemaster chips still available for your Lowrance units you just need to look in the correct place but I cannot say where that place is on here w/o getting scolded;)! Navionics has stepped up there game in a big way, now offering statewide chips with free one year upgrades and actually adding new lakes to their chip!! It's about time!
I'd suspect most are aware that neither are 'better'. As midget explains, we use the chip with an accurate map, on the lake fished, regardless of brand. Being versed in both, and what they offer, I don't reach for a brand, but an accurate map. I prefer looking at the color on the nav chip over LM, personally, but if I want accuracy, I run the LM on my home waters. If nav decides to map some of my local flowages like LM did, all the better. So, if one of your chips is more accurate for a certain lake, why run one of each nav/LM? I could see doing this on Mill Lacs, Big V, LOTW, or another water where both chips offer high quality maps. If you are boating on Petenwell flowage in WI, it doesn't even pay to have the nav along as it holds little to no value in comparison. Some folks were just a bit frightened when they heard that at some point LM would no longer be available for Lowrance users. Nice to know the data will be available. It's also comforting to know nav is mapping more waters, along with offering updates. Should make for a nice value.
