Location: Stevens Point, WI | Ram Mount makes a mount specifically for a trolling motor. Connect it when traveling in rough water or trailering and that'll certainly take care of any pounding on the motor head.

As for the motor now sticking outside of your boat with the larger shaft motor, yes, reinstall your trolling motor at a different angle, I would highly suggest that. A properly installed motor has the head just inside the gunnel so it doesn't hit docks and it would fit properly under a cover.
