If you have a seven pin Plug on your truck then they make an adapter that goes to a straight four and a straight five. If the breaks are hudraulic then they work all the time. Like steve said the wire is to turn them off when you are backing. I got mine at NAPA. If your truck only has a 4 flat you will need to wire a new plug in or just use the stopper on the trailer that prevents plunger from applying breaks. I would talk to an auto parts store or dealership before cutting wires on the back end. They probably will have a wiring harness that will plug right in somewhere under the truck back by the tail lights...
