Maybe someone on here can help. Just got a new Gen2 HDS8 SS bundle. I have a Ranger 618 console. Looking at the options for mounting the SS transducer. I know it will really only work well at low speeds. I'm considering the "flush" to the step/direct mount. The one where I don't actually use the mount bracket at all but screw it direct to the step. Does anyone have any feedback on this? I really want this unit to have the best "view" it can while moving slowly while not worrying about it at running speed since I won't be using it then.

Any feedback on this would be very helpful, really want to get it right the first time and with the best performance possible. TJ - you got any good info on this stuff? I know they say it should also be very close to my other transducer to get the best overlay possible, but right now I'm not sure exactly where the conventional ducer is, its epoxied in/thru hull I know and should be compatible with the new unit so I don't plan on changing that, but can't look for it now as boat is covered and its raining.
