| For all units, the insight mapping gives you the shaded relief. For the HDS-7, 8 and 10 it also includes nautic path maps. So, if you are going to fish the great lakes or coastal waters you get solid mapping built in. If all you are going to fish is inland waters the maps built in are worthless up north. For the HDS 5, purchasing the insight mapping only gives you shadinig.
Everything Esoxfly says about how the shading works is correct. It is basically there for aesthetics and goes away as soon as you zoom in close enough to where you would actually use it. | |
