You can get a 10.4" waterproof marine monitor for $1,500. I agree that it's too expensive to make sense. But you can get a non-waterproof model for $200. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS373&q=...

There must be something that would work here. It would be nice to have a monitor on the bow to view the unit at the console. You could run maps on the console unit and not bother with a GPS at the bow. Between map chips and the cost of the bow unit I imagine there is some serious money to be saved, and you'd also have the advange of a big screen GPS up front!
