Noticed substantial tread loss on the inside of just one of my relatively new trailer tires. Looks like a bent axle as the tire kinda flares out at the bottom, although I don't see an actual bend in axle. Called a place that works on trailers and they'll figure out what's going on Friday but gave me the option of installing the axle (if necessary) myself to save some coin, which I haven't heard from a mechanic before so I assume this is a pretty simple job? They'll set me up with correct parts, etc.

So just wondering if this is something I should try my hand at. Anybody have any experience replacing a trailer axle? I consider myself pretty handy, looks like just U-bolts and bearings to remove but don't want to get in over my head. Rusty U-bolts the only potential issue? I assume the axle matches up with leaf springs to ensure it's on straight.

It's a decent sized trailer for a 16' boat, if that matters.
