Subject: Outboard Extended Warranty?

I own a '08 Optimax 115. The original owner did not purchase an extended warranty and the 3 year factory warranty is about to expire. Mercury mailed me a product protection plan enrollment form with the option of extending the warranry for up to 4 years. As I plan to keep this rig for at least 3 years, I need to know what you think: Is this a slam-dunk "just do it" cost of ownership or are there other options/considerations that I should take into account? I know that major repairs are expensive, but this warranty extension ain't cheap either ($1160.50 for 3 years).
Your thoughts re this matter are greatly appreciated.
