Location: NW WI | As VMS said, dryrot is your worst enemy. If the trailer sits often, the rubber compound (the carbon in the rubber) in the tire doesn't get exercised. Couple that with sunlight and you have a recipe for tire failure.
You could buy tire covers...you know those white covers you see on RV's? Also, I've used a product called "303 Protectant" for years on my tires and boat interior. I've owned 4 boats/trailers in the past 20 years, trailered often with Goodyears and "knock on wood", I've never had an issue.
