i've heard that trailer tires have a life expectancy of 4 years, regardless of the miles you put on them. ie., even a set of tires with very low miles is going to be questionable after 4 years due to the rubber breaking down or somesuch.

is there some science to that idea or is it just a myth?


I don't know about 4 years, but I do know that miles are not everything.

The boat I bought last year, the tires had very low miles. The treads looked brand new, but I still had to replace them because the rubber was going to crap. Sitting around not being used is not good for a tire either.
