| I have a 90hp 4 stroke on my pontoon boat. Bought it new 3 years ago and could not be more pleased. If we take someone for a ride, at 2,000 rpms it is so quiet that we don't need to raise our voices to talk and pulling kids on a tube it has plenty of power. Starts every time without a bit of hesitation.
My brother in law is a heavy equipment mechanic and has always had two stroke motors. The first time I gave him a ride he rode in the back so he could listen. He just laughed and said that a guy would have to be careful not to try and start it while it was running.
On the other hand, I live in Fond du Lac and have talked to a couple of engineers from Mercury and they are big fans of the Optimax relative to power and fuel consumption for fisherman. They suggested the four stroke for the pontoon but really like the hole shot with the Opti.
