make sure you got the key into the keyway, if you didnt the key is just pushing against the center of the impeller. also ive noticed that if you have lake with lots of alge and other sm floating debris it can get sucked into the engine- you can put a pipe cleaner, small wire brush into the hole where the water exits and make sure its not clogged/ or gummed up my .02
