If your main station for fishing will be up front, a the really good locator should be there. Depending on the type of fishing, a GPS/depthfinder combo might be good in both locations if you purchased a tiller model boat. if console, then a basic depthfinder in the rear will do just fine.

For TM length, I would agree...get the longer one. If you get into any wind where you are dealing with some bigger waves, being able to keep the TM prop in the water is beneficial.
