Just make sure it's got a clear shot on each side. It has to be unopstructed or you'll see it on your screen.

As for the 2.25 mount, they're what I use. It comes down to the water you fish and weight of your units. If you fish big water, big waves, the smaller mount will usually have issues with larger units. I did run a 25C, and then an HDS8 on the smaller mounts for a while on LSC, but changed to the 2.25, and they do hold much better. But if you're on small water and don't take a beating, the smaller mounts will hold. Some say they won't, but they held my 25 and 8 in everything but very rough water.
