I have a friend that runs a Verado 300 on a Ranger 621. Tremedous motor. Very quiet (considering).
That being said: gas is going to skyrocket soon, and the Verado is an absolute gas hog. Spending $50 to $75 for a day's fishing on bigger water would not likely be the exception, but rather the rule.

I'm assuming, if he's going through that much gas in one day every time out, two things come to mind. One, he's making long runs and two, he's not easy on the throttle. Run that motor 3600-4400 rpms and his fuel consumption would go way down, that goes for any motor. Running WOT everywhere, very easy to go through that much gas everyday then.
