From my limited experience with updates (as I don't update for the sake of updates unless I need them) you need to make sure the card is 100% blank before you load the update. I had an issue with my HDS last year when I had some other screwy file on there that came with the card or something and it wouldn't let it load normally. I had to wipe the card clean and reload the update. I also had an issue with my computer not loading the full update package on the card. It would load the update, but not the installer or something to that effect. (Can you tell I'm not a computer genius? LOL) The file was there, but it didn't work. Yet again, I had to go in, wipe th card and reload it all over again, making sure everything was on there and then finally it loaded. This was last year after like six beers at about 4:00 AM, so that whole fiasco is a blur. I just recently loaded the latest update for my bow HDS to allow Fish N Chips and it went well.
I've also heard that you need to install the updates in order. Meaning if you're on a software version from four years ago, and you try to load an update from this year, you need to load the updates that came before so they can load correctly. I don't know if that's 100% fact, or if that would prevent it from loading, but I have heard of guys having to go back and load a bunch of older updates to get a current one to work.
Give TJ a bit and he'll show up and get you in the right direction, and probably debunk everything I just said. But as you can see, I've had my issues with updates too, which is probably why I'm not a fan of them unless I need them. |
