Hey Nate, I have the equivalent set up with a 917 on the bow and a 997 at the console, and the 1" difference doesn't bother me. I did research the SI quite a bit before buying, and there are guys that have it on the trolling motor, the problem is once you turn the motor you are gonna get a smeared image. SI works the best while going straight, between 4-6 mph. Even on the transom when you turn you loose image quality. Now the down imaging may be a different story on the trolling motor, but I don't have any info on that. Some good sites for HB info are:
