If your boat is lighter like an aluminum 18 ft or less the 2WD is fine except at the worst launches---Towing is no issue just the angle of the launch and again if it might be iced up at all. I have had a 4WD to tow since 2002 and I have only used the 4WD for pulling out of a launch maybe 4-5 times. Mine pulls the boat out no problem just in 2Wd and I never have used the 4WD for actually towing the boat down the road. Bottom line for me would be $$$$$ and condition of the truck.
