I own a 1993 40 Merc 2 stroke with oil injection since it was brand new and other than basic mantience, smoking it down every winter and taking it in for a tune-up every 3 years I've never had a problem with this motor. I've thought about tradeing it in for a 75 or 90 4 stroke my boats rated for a 115 but i guess if it ain't broke don't fix it and I'd have to admit I'd have a hard time parting with this motor I think I got my money's worth. The one thing I have noticed in the last 5 years or so with all brands of 4 stroke motor's 150 and up is I've come across more than a few guy's broken down out on the water and had to pull them back to the dock.
