TJ,

I've had the unit for 22 months. I had no idea that the antennas wear out. Do you have to get a new one directly from Lowrance? If so do you have any idea how much they cost? The part I cut out was a 2" section of the antenna power cable. It had a bad kink and I though one or more of the three wires inside the cable had broke. It is a black cable containing one 18 gauge red wire, one 18 gauge black wire, and one unshielded silver ground wire. When I found out that wasn't the problem I reconnected them using crimp on connectors with shrink tube.

I think they're $150-200. I'm guessing you messed something up in the power cable when you cut it. I'd buy a new power cable before I bought a puck and try that first.
