The 520c unit I have loses position noticeably more often than the LCX-38c right next to it. I have a separate antenna for each, so I think it's the unit. I think the higher-end Lowrance units seem to process more satellites than the lower-end units do...which makes sense of course. I've never done a firmware version upgrade on either of the units though, and they are both three years old. Now that I just got the Navionics Gold card and the NavPlanner2 application (with a card reader), I'll have to get myself a blank SD card and upgrade the firmware this year.
