Things to think about before you buy:

Do you have room for two batteries? That will settle the 12 or 24 volts question.

Lake or river? Do you need power against a current?

How large of waves will you fish in? The larger the wave to longer the shaft to keep the prop in the water.

All things being equal, go with the largest unit you can afford. It might keep you off the rocks one day.

I would not be concerned that the troll motor was over powered.
