When mercury first got mariner, yamaha was building them. Thats how yamaha entered the market, was building mariner motors for mercury. Than yamaha made there own line of motors. That is what i was told.

I have a mariner 25, bought it used (1990 model), and it has not let me down. I love the motor, put three hard seasons on it, from wide openep runs for half hour cracks to trolling at idle for 4 hours. Mine has been great to me.
