Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | You need to bleed the system I'd imagine. Before it totally went out was the wheel kind of jerky? If it was then you just have to bleed the system. If it happened all at once you may have a bad seal. I haven't had to fix that one yet.
What you do to bleed the system is get some of the special Seastar fluid (most marine dealers have it), hook up the hose and start filling up the fixture that is probably on the dash by your steering wheel. Once it's full you're going to need to bleed the system. Turn the wheel/motor all the way to one side. Then loosen the fitting on the opposite side. Turn the wheel until the motor goes all the way to that side. Tighten the fitting and loosen the one on the other side and repeat.
***be sure that you are still feeding the system fluid during this process or else you'll have to start over again****
Repeat until the steering is smooth. |
