I've got a Lowrance 850 that my Dad got on his Lund when he bought it and didn't need, and it's done me very well. Kinda cool that you can very very easily network it with your Lowrance GPS. Three wires and you can set it up for emergency hails, and I forget what it's called, but the individual ship ID, like a phone number. 'Course you may not have Lowrance units, and you may be able to do that with any radio, but I thought it was cool. I've hailed and received from the St. Clair river down to the south end of the US side of LSC running a 3' whip antenna...don't need one of those big fiberglass monsters.
