The 140 is a very dependable motor but it is under the 140 rating. I've even heard that it's closer to 125 then 140. If the boat is borderline with a 140hp and you like to load it up or do a lot of tubing/skiing you may have to invest in another prop for those applications.

That being said the dependability of the 115/140 (same block) is impressive. I heard of one motor that Frankies got in on trade with 3000 hours on it and still was running well. They sold it to a guy with whom they disclosed the hours to and last checked it was still going. That was 4 years ago.
