I don't think that blowing out the lower unit is necessary if you have a few drops in the lower unit its ok. As long as you don't have enough in there to expand, cracking the unit (that's what you are trying to prevent). If you just have a few drops and it freezes, they will thaw when you place the motor into the lake the next time out.
