Hiya,

The parts will be fairly inexpensive for that carb rebuild so what you are paying for is the time in rebuild. To me, that seems a bit high for one carb with very little to it. If you have any mechanical ability, you could do it yourself. There are not many parts to it, and with a little cleaner you could do it yourself. biggest issue will probably gunk clogging a jet.

With the age of the motor, I would suggest getting new fuel lines in the engine compartment (from the hose fitting for the tank line to attatch) to the fuel pump and on to the carb. If they are original lines, they could very well be breaking down inside and gunk getting into the carb, which if the carb is rebuilt, it will be clogged again quickly. It would be more of a preventative maintenance issue than anything.

$350 seems a bit high to me....
