I just had a big time blowout last weekend. Marathon made in 2001, properly inspected and inflated. I replaced both tires as the one that didn't blow was the same vintage.
The old Marathons and the replacement "Towmasters" both have the same max load rating of 1870# @ 50 p.s.i.. Both sets: 215/75/14, load range C.
I'm questioning the total load rating of 3740# for this set of tires on a Ranger 681 with 3 batteries a main and kicker motor and the naormal bunch of crap we carry in our boats. I have not weighed the boat, but will when I get the chance.
If I had had the choice (I didn't, as I got the only 2 tires in Antigo that would fit), I would have gotten 225/75/14 load range D.
No extra damage was done and the blowout was on the pass. side away from traffic and we got everything back in shape in an hour.
