How recently did you replace the transom??? And if you did replace it, what did you replace the old transom with???

Only thing I can think of is that you had the transom replaced with pressure-treated plywood... which is a big NO-NO since the chemicals inside the treated plywood reacts badly with aluminum, causing corrosion...
