Location: Kodiak, AK | Well a month to the day after my OX66 lost a piston from water in the oil, I'm repowered and back on the water. Holy crap, what a motor! I went four stroke, and went with a Yamaha 225 Sport. It's their 250 powerplant (3.3 block like the 200 and 225, but with variable camshaft timing and slightly different injection) detuned to 225 and with a 20" shaft. It's their motor for the two stroke bass boat guys that want a four stroke. It's a monster next to the VMAX. I stood the VMAX cowling up next to it show the difference. It's like I've got a friggin Detroit Diesel back there it's so big.
All I can say is wow. I got the restrictive part of the break in done today; the keeping it below 2000 for an hour, then riding just barely on plane for an hour.... Now I can run it, just now WOT for another seven hours. I think alot of bass boat guys would cringe at the extra 100 lbs, but on a big 620 hull, you can't tell it's back there. It's torquey as all get out, and you do have to rev it higher to get it out of the hole, but rev it to 3600 and it puts you back agains the leaning post and launches. Trim it out, and you're flying. This motor so far spanks my VMAX. It's got 25 hp on it, but also 100 lbs and is a four stroke, so you'd not expect that 25 hp to make that much difference. But the technology is there and the motor produces.
Ah, just had to tell someone!
