I have a new HSD-5. Running a LakeMaster Chip for the LOTWs.

Seems to work about 75% of the time. Unit locks on in good fashion (I have a Standard Horizon GPS running a C-Map chip and lock-up time is similar). However, I get this. Every once in a while the mapping system will just "black-out". Be going along, and either at low speed or at high speed the unit will suddenly just blackout, and only show you a black grid system, with your overlay numbers. Then about as suddenly it will come back to life and work for a couple of hours, and you think your troubles are over. Then it does it again. Very frustrating. It seems that if you zoom out it'll be O.K. for a while, but then it'll start again. Seems to be worse with a split screen. Not sure what's causing this?

Haven't called Lowrance yet (my calling experiences hasn't been good), but will soon if this continues and I can't make it work by myself, with on-line help. Sent an e-mail, with no response so far.

When it 's working the mapping system with the LakeMaster LOTWs chip is very good. GPS accuracy is much better that what I've seen with older units and chips. Detail accuracy is good. wish they had the whole lake mapped.

Bet they'll get this to work eventually. Like someone said, the first year with something new is usually an experience. Sort of frustrating at times.
