I'd be more inclined to believe the unit showing me something and doubt the unit not displaying fish. Check the noise filtering on the dash unit. If you had reading problems with it while running the filtering may have been turned up or the sensitivity turned down. Either way would explain why you are not seeing things with that unit. Unfortunately, other than a complete change of transducer locations, quite a few boats I've been in had to have more of the noise suppression on to get a reading at higher speeds that you can make use of. Just one possible answer.
